Finding Your Voice Through Authentic Conversations

In all the amazing conversations I’ve had with experts in the fitness, health, and nutrition space on the Nicole Chenard Show, it’s always nice to have a moment to turn inward. Today, I’m excited to expand upon a recent episode I recorded, Authenticity in Audio: Unedited Conversations. By finding these opportunities to expand on my personal story, I hope to encourage you to embrace yours.

There’s More to the Story

You may know me as a passionate sports dietitian who thrives on helping as many clients as possible and loves a good conversation about food, cooking, and myth-busting fad diets. There’s much more to my story, and sharing the less visible parts is a nice reminder that the journey looks different for everyone.

Resourcefulness in adversity

I haven’t always had resources at my disposal, but I’ve always been resourceful, a trait I learned from my mother. Much like the infamous Heartbreak Hill of the Boston Marathon, my life has often felt like an uphill battle.

Most people might not assume this by looking at me or hearing about me from others, but I’ve faced numerous setbacks. In these moments of challenge, we can choose to surrender or see new opportunities to learn valuable lessons that last a lifetime. I strive for the latter and teach my clients to do the same in their own lives.

My mother: An inspiring example of resilience

My earliest memory of resilience is my mother and her story about the day I was born. At 37, she was called a “geriatric mother” when she was pregnant with me, which offended her deeply. Anyone who’s been unfairly labeled can understand why.

Naturally, my mother was much younger when she had my two older sisters. The doctors predicted my birth date as December 5th, which would have officially made her 38 at the time I entered the world. That’s when she opted into a Caesarian section on November 25th to be certain she gave birth at 37.

This act was her way of reclaiming her power during one of her most vulnerable moments. It was her third C-section, a procedure she decided to have despite the increased risk. As I think about my mom’s powerful decision to feel empowered, I’m continuously inspired. It takes strength to assert control over life circumstances, which I take with me in anything I do.

The power of using my voice

When I reflect on my experience turning 36, I can’t help but find how my mom’s voice helped shape my own. My voice, both literally and figuratively, has been a significant tool in my life. There’s nothing like being approached by someone who’d listened to my podcast or learned from my work and who shares how much it’s influenced them. Spreading positivity through authenticity and speaking my truth, I can touch people’s lives in ways I’ve never dreamed of.

Each of you can do the same. It takes one spark to light the flame, and your voice is one light you should never dim.

Here’s What Happens When You Embrace Your Authentic Voice

  • You feel empowered to speak about your beliefs and express yourself fully.
  • You gain self-confidence and self-respect by living in line with your true self without conforming to others’ expectations.
  • You build genuine connections with people who relate to and appreciate your voice.
  • You advocate for change and see your voice impact communities on a broader scale.
  • You support your emotional and mental health without the stress and anxiety of holding in how you’re feeling.
  • You take advantage of the digital age, which allows you to reach far bigger audiences in places you never would have connected to, relying solely on in-person interactions.

An Encouraging Nudge for All of You

I want to thank each of you for being there to welcome my voice and share these special moments of tuning inward. So now, I want to leave you with that final loving reminder to use your authentic voice and share your story. When you open up about the unique aspects of your journey and what makes you who you are, you permit others to do the same. That ripple effect of authenticity and courage is the greatest legacy we can hope to leave.

Imagine a world where we all feel safe expressing our true selves without holding back what we feel or fearing being judged.

By sharing more of who you are, you not only enrich your own life but also inspire those around you to embrace their own stories with confidence and pride. So, let’s start today—speak up, share your truth, and watch how your authenticity encourages others to step into their own light.

Your feedback and encouragement mean the world to me. If you enjoy what you’re reading or hearing on the podcast, please consider following, sharing, and reviewing. Your support helps me to keep creating content that makes a difference.
